CLAN Cancer Support

These roles support individuals before, during, and after cancer treatment as well as those in caring roles, helping them maintain both physical and emotional wellbeing. This is more than a fitness role....It’s an opportunity to support people through one of the most challenging periods of their lives, helping them regain strength, confidence, and a sense of control.

This innovative programme is designed to develop, deliver, and evaluate structured physical activity and exercise support for people impacted by cancer.

We recognise that this is not a typical fitness environment. Many clients will be experiencing fatigue, treatment side effects, or emotional distress. Success in this role means:

• Delivering person -centred, flexible support
• Working at a pace that feels manageable for the client — not overwhelming
• Balancing measurable outcomes with empathy and understanding
• Recognising that some sessions may focus more on listening and emotional support than physical activity

The Roles

Exercise Practitioner (up to 10 hours per week)

You will provide 1:1 assessments, personalised exercise programmes, and ongoing support helping clients to:

• Prepare for treatment and/or surgery (prehabilitation)
• Recover and rebuild post-treatment (rehabilitation)
• Improve physical function, strength, and confidence throughout treatment
• Enhance overall quality of life

You’ll adapt sessions in real time based on each client’s physical and emotional needs.

Group Exercise Coach (up to 3 hours per week)

You will deliver inclusive, supportive group sessions that:

• Encourage safe, accessible movement for all abilities
• Build confidence and a sense of community
• Support participants at different stages of treatment and recovery
• Motivate individuals experiencing fatigue or low energy

Creating a welcoming, non-judgemental environment that nurtures peer support is essential.
