The Waves are Rolling On

I drew inspiration from The Viking Path by JJ Haldane Burgess. This novel heavily influenced today’s Up Helly Aa festival. Aside from alluding to Viking influences in Scotland, I found it interesting that prior to the book the festival was a tar barrel burning event that was often disruptive. The creation of the festival as it is today brought young people and communities together to celebrate in wider celebration of culture and productivity. I love the idea that a book can inspire social change and the title comes from the festival song, also inspired by the book.
