Sinclairs Celebrate Year of Fundraising

A popular north-east family jeweller has raised more than £35,000 after it completed a year of activities and events in support of two local causes.

Sinclairs in Inverurie had set itself the task of raising funds to officially mark 40 years in business and had selected both Befriend a Child and CLAN Cancer Support to be the beneficiaries of their efforts.

At a thank you event and presentation last week (Thursday, March 24) at its premises in Inverurie, staff from the jewellers handed over cheques to both charities as it paid tribute to all those who had helped it reach the impressive total.

From two team efforts at the Run Garioch 10k race both last year and this year, a fundraising fashion show at Meldrum House Hotel, a golf event at Meldrum House Golf Club and an anniversary ball at Thainstone Exchange among other activities and initiatives, staff, customers and the north-east public have come together to ensure the business helped celebrate the milestone in style.

Ian Sinclair, owner of Sinclairs Jewellers, said: “We’ve had such a fantastic year celebrating our 40th year in business and to have achieved this fantastic total for what are two extremely worthy causes really is the icing on the cake.

“From those who attended one of our events to our loyal customers and staff who have supported our in-house initiatives, as well as the band of volunteers from both Befriend a Child and CLAN who have helped us along the way, it’s been a real team effort throughout the last 12 months.

“Both charities have such a vital role to play here in the north-east and I couldn’t be more proud to be able to handover donations that will hopefully play a part in helping both continue to make a difference to the lives of so many.

“It’s not every day that a local business celebrates its 40th anniversary and we will look back on the year with many fond memories. It’s fantastic that so many people have been able to share our milestone with us.”

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “The entire Sinclairs team and its loyal customers should be immensely proud of their achievements and we’re so humbled to have been selected as a recipient of their generosity.

“To receive such a substantial donation is an incredible boost to all associated with the charity and will play a massive role in aiding our provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer here in the north-east. We’re delighted to have been a part of what has been a special year for the business.”

Lana Bambridge, development and resources manager at Befriend a Child, said: “We have been incredibly touched by the efforts of the Sinclair team to support and raise awareness of Befriend a Child throughout our joint 40th Anniversaries. Their donation will go a long way to supporting those local children and young people who need it the most to develop and reach their full potential.”
