Oil and gas operator continues to support CLAN with new appeal donation.

An independent oil and gas operator has agreed to continue its support for CLAN despite the oil and gas downturn.

Aberdeen-based Serica Energy is an independent upstream oil and gas company with operations centred on the UK. The company, which operates the Bruce gas field in the Northern North Sea, partnered with CLAN in 2019 and has now announced its ongoing support with a £10,000 donation to CLAN's Here for You appeal.

CLAN had to cancel its major fundraising events in Spring 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak, and as a result, is facing a major deficit in funds. The charity has continued to support hundreds of people affected by cancer throughout the lockdown with telephone and online support. It launched the new Here for You appeal in May with the support of global singer/songwriter Emeli Sande, in an attempt to recoup some of its huge losses.

Mike Killeen, Serica Energy’s Head of Operations in Aberdeen said: “Making a worthwhile contribution at a local level is important to everyone at Serica, and we truly admire the work done by CLAN before and during the lockdown. It has been impressive to see the charity do everything it can to continue to support local people despite the need for social distancing. We know from our association with CLAN that people affected by cancer can feel very alone, so it was important for CLAN to continue to provide its support even though it had to temporarily close the doors at its centres.

“We are delighted to offer this donation to help the appeal kick-off and look forward to an ongoing and much-valued relationship with CLAN.”

Fiona Fernie, Head of Income Generation & Business Development for CLAN added: “We understand that times are difficult for all organisations at the moment, which is why we are so pleased to receive this donation from Serica. The company generously supported CLAN’s fundraising walk, and we are incredibly grateful to have the backing of Serica once again for our new appeal.

“With so many of our popular, regular fundraising events cancelled, we are now in the position where we need to ask the community for support so that we can continue our work.

“Cancer hasn’t stopped during the pandemic, and in fact, many people affected by cancer are shielding so feeling more alone and concerned than ever before. Our telephone support team has done a fantastic job of keeping in touch with our clients, reassuring them and offering practical and emotional support.

“As cancer treatments at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary ramp up, we look forward to re-opening CLAN Haven in Aberdeen, and our seven centres across the north-east as soon as we can.

“However, we cannot do this alone, so the donation from Serica Energy is both welcome and timely.

“The Here for You appeal asks everyone to give £10 or whatever they can to CLAN to help us make sure we can continue to offer our life-changing services, not just now but into the future”
