Kemnay Walk Which Raised More Than £25,000 Set To Return

A Kemnay woman has presented CLAN Cancer Support with a donation of more than £25,000 following the huge success of an event earlier in the year.

The Purple Walk took place in Kemnay on Sunday, 4th September, with nearly 400 people joining organiser Alison Brown for the 10km walk in support of CLAN Cancer Support.

Alison, 35, wanted to organise an event for the charity having accessed CLAN’s support and wellbeing services following her own cancer diagnosis in 2013, had no idea how successful the day would become.

Alison said: “I really had no idea the day would develop into what it did. To have so many people come together from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to raise awareness and funds for CLAN was truly inspirational.

“When I was organising the event, the support I received from local businesses including A&G Collie Butcher, Bennachie Lodge Hotel, Kemnay Scouts and Explorers, Fitness Class with Jackie and Show Burrows who did the Zumba warm up for everyone, really blew me away and helped to create such a special atmosphere on the day.

“My family and friends were also so supportive and really encouraged me to push forward with the event as they know how much CLAN helped me and my close family during my treatment. However the event wouldn’t have been such a success without all the fantastic people who walked the 10km with me.”

Following the success of the event, Alison is in the process of securing support for a second Purple Walk in 2017.

Susan Crighton, CLAN Cancer Support Fundraising Manager, was on hand to thank Alison for her support.

She said: “When we heard how many people participated in the Purple Walk we were just delighted for Alison. Her hard work and dedication, along with the support she received from local businesses and groups, was fantastic. The awareness that Alison has helped to raise about CLAN’s services both in Aberdeen and the Inverurie area is so important to us, but to also raise over £25,000 at the same time is truly special.

“We cannot thank Alison, her family and friends enough for their hard work and support and are delighted that Alison is already planning an event next year.”
