Grant Laces Up For CLAN Cancer Support At Edinburgh Marathon
A north-east man will lace up for his first marathon this spring to continue a family legacy and raise money for a cancer support charity.
Grant Anderson is training for the Edinburgh Marathon in a bid to raise more than £1,000 for CLAN Cancer Support.
Originally from Aberdeen, Grant will tackle the 26.2-mile course around Scotland’s capital city on Sunday, May 27.
The communications professional, who works for VisitScotland in Edinburgh, is the son of Kenny Anderson who is the former chairman of CLAN.
Grant also worked with the charity to find participants for his dissertation while he was a student at the University of Dundee.
Grant, 25, said: “I’ve wanted to do something to raise money for CLAN for a little while now and running the Edinburgh Marathon for the charity appealed because of my dad’s connection as a former chairman.
“In the last couple years, I’ve become a lot more health and fitness conscious and have been amazed by the benefits, both mentally and physically, whilst I’ve been training.
“Running a marathon is an exciting challenge which will allow me to continue on my fitness journey. I regularly go to the gym and play five-side-football with friends from work so I’m not starting from scratch.”
Grant started his marathon training through the winter and is putting in the miles in the build-up to the event.
He said: “In January, I upped my cardio at the gym, running 5ks around five times a week and, now into February, I’m trying to do a ten-mile run a couple times a week. I will up this to 15 miles in March and then do the occasional 20-mile run in the lead up to the marathon.”
Some of Grant’s friends have run marathons in the past and have been giving him advice and helping him with his training.
Grant added: “Physically, the marathon will be the biggest challenge of my life but I’m a very motivated person and firmly believe that with hard work, determination and the knowledge it’s all for a great cause will get me over the finish line.”
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.
Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Elgin, Buckie, Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Lossiemouth, Peterhead, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
