CLAN Cancer Support

Taking on Etape Loch Ness for the first time is Orkney-based Marty Flett and Aberdeen-based friend, Iain Stanger, who will be raising funds for CLAN Cancer Support.

Marty is an ambassador for the charity having previously taken on a number of challenges in aid the cancer support charity since 2010.

Earlier this year, the pair took part in a cycle challenge to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and during the challenge decided to tackle Etape Loch Ness together later this month (April).

Marty said: “Each year I like to set myself a fundraising challenge for CLAN and after the cycle challenge for My Name’5 Doddie I started looking for another fundraising challenge. I’ve always wanted to tackle Etape Loch Ness so this seemed like the ideal time.

“Over the past 19 years I’ve taken on a number of different fundraising challenges, including some with my friend and long-distance runner William Sichel. The most memorable challenge, for a number of reasons, was rowing from Shetland to the Faroes which set off in some of the worst weather I could have imagined.

“Raising money for an organisation as special as CLAN is very close to my heart. We are very luck that CLAN is there to support people affected by a cancer diagnosis not just in Aberdeen but also in Orkney and Shetland, helping those in remote and rural locations access the support and information they need at what can be a difficult time in their life.”

Iain Stanger will be joining Marty on the 66 mile challenge on 28th April said: “Each year I set myself a physical challenge for a local charity and when Marty mentioned supporting CLAN by tackling Etape Loch Ness I jumped at the chance.

“Like many others, cancer is something which has directly affected my family and I am delighted to be raising vital funds for a local charity which carries out such important work supporting people affected by a cancer diagnosis.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort, support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness.

Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Buckie, Crimond, Elgin, Inverurie, Lossiemouth, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
