Des Clarke to Host Clan's Birthday Ball

Glitz 3

Scottish stand-up comedian and presenter Des Clarke has been unveiled as the host of Clan Cancer Support’s fundraising ball this September.

The award-winning performer will lead proceedings at the Beach Ballroom on Saturday, September 30, kicking off the charity’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The birthday party themed event will include a three-course meal, a ball pit photobooth and entertainment from popular local function band Glitz who will play live music from throughout the charity's history along with a bespoke medley especially composed for the occasion.

All proceeds will go towards providing vital services for people affected by cancer in the north-east, Moray, Shetland and Orkney.

Ruth McIntosh, Clan Cancer Support’s charity development manager, said: “We are over the moon to have Des onboard to host our ball and launch our official birthday celebrations!

“The ball is our flagship fundraising event and this year it’s especially important as we mark our 40th anniversary year. We’re incredibly grateful to those who have generously donated prizes for our raffle and auction and to everyone who has already bought a ticket.

“The countdown is now on with just two months to go, but there’s still time to support the event by contacting our fundraising team about a donation or by purchasing a ticket. We have no doubt this will be a night to remember, and we’d love to see as many people there as possible to help us celebrate!”

Clan was founded in 1983 by a group of patients, health professionals and family members who recognised that cancer does not just affect the patient, but their entire social network.  They were determined to improve cancer support services in a non-medical environment across Aberdeen and the north-east of Scotland.

It has grown from one employee using a campervan to reach communities, to a team of nearly 60 across seven wellbeing centres and additional outreach programmes throughout north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

The independent cancer support charity provides emotional and practical support to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis, including the individual, their family, carers and friends.

Clan provides free professional counselling, complementary therapies, nutrition and wellbeing activities, information and dedicated support for children and families. It also operates The Haven, the charity’s bed and breakfast facility which adjoins Clan House in Aberdeen and provides home from home accommodation for patients travelling to the city for treatment and hospital appointments.

The ball will take place at the Beach Ballroom on Saturday, September 30. Tickets cost £100 per person and a limited number of tables of 10 are available at £1,000 each. VIP tables are also available for £1,500, which include early access, exclusive use of the Soda Bar, brand recognition and prosecco for the table.
