CLAN’s New Buckie Base Welcomes Moray Support

A new cancer support drop-in facility in Moray has been warmly welcomed by the local community since opening its doors this summer.

CLAN Cancer Support launched its latest community centre in August as part of an expansion of services in the area, bringing support and wellbeing services to the local community in Buckie.

Based within the town’s Seafield Medical Centre, CLAN staff and support volunteers are available every Monday from 1pm to 4pm, providing emotional and practical support, counselling, specialist children and families support and complementary therapies.

The new centre has been so well-received that the charity is already hoping to expand the provision of services at the centre which focus on reducing stress and assisting pain relief. Services offered to include a therapist offering reflexology to clients on a monthly basis.

The charity has had a presence in Elgin since July 2013 and hopes that the extension to services in Buckie will ensure more people in the Moray area can access crucial support within their local community.

Tracy Sellar, CLAN’s Moray area co-ordinator, oversees the new drop-in service and is pleased to see it’s making a crucial difference to members of the local community.

She said: “As we developed our services in Moray with bases in Elgin and Lossiemouth, it became apparent that there was a growing need for services based within a closer proximity to Buckie.

“The new drop-in centre opened with nine new clients and fourteen visitors visiting within the first week as well as a fantastic level of support from the local community.

“We’ve been working closely with staff at Seafield Medical Centre and are receiving new referrals each week as knowledge of the vital wellbeing and support services, which are now more readily available to anyone affected by cancer in the area, grows.”
