CLAN’s Health Walks Offer Breath of Fresh Air

People affected by cancer are being given the chance to partake in a spot of gentle exercise as part of our popular walking group.

CLAN Cancer Support’s weekly walking group has returned in time for summer and takes place every Wednesday at 2pm at various locations across the north-east of Scotland.

The group, which is led by four CLAN support volunteers who have all been trained as part of the Walk Aberdeen and Paths for All schemes, gives individuals the chance to speak to members of the charity’s personnel in a relaxed environment, alongside reinforcing the benefits that low level exercise could have on a person’s wellbeing.

The walks last for approximately one hour with tea and coffee available on completion.

Lucy Whiteman, CLAN’s services manager, said: “The return of our walking groups is always highly anticipated by our clients and we’re delighted that they are now back up and running for this summer.

“The walks are open to all CLAN clients as well as anyone affected by cancer and we are inviting those who may feel they would benefit from a morning of companionship and relaxed exercise to join us.

“We’ve found in the past that gentle outdoor activity can be beneficial to those experiencing a cancer diagnosis and our groups can also be a great way of meeting people who are perhaps dealing with similar thoughts and feelings as you.

“The walks are always gentle and are perfect for everyone of all abilities; you really don’t need to be a fitness fanatic to take part. If you are interested and would like to find out about when and where the next walk is taking place, we would be thrilled to hear from you.”

The next walk takes place on July 8 at Duthie Park. Participants are asked to meet at the car park at the bottom of Polmuir Road, with the walk beginning at 2pm.

A full schedule for the walks can be requested from the CLAN reception on 01224 647000 or email enquiries@clanhouse.org
