Leading north-east cancer charity, Clan Cancer Support is hosting a series of volunteering open days throughout the north of Scotland to say thank you to Clan’s dedicated team of volunteers and encourage the public to sign up and make a difference to local people affected by cancer.
The events aim to provide an overview of the different volunteering opportunities available within the charity.
Attendees will be able to find out more about Clan Cancer Support with local employees on hand to advise candidates on their suitability for roles including volunteering at events and shops, as well as assisting with listening and support and driving clients to and from their hospital appointments.
The open days coincide with Volunteers’ Week which takes place from 1 – 7 June every year to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to our communities and to say thank you.
Claire Mechie, Clan’s volunteer manager, said: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything Clan does. We rely heavily on their time, dedication and skills to be able to provide high quality person-centred, impartial support services to people affected by cancer across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
“We are delighted to be able to host these open days at all of our support centres, for the public to engage with Clan and find out more about the volunteer opportunities we offer. The benefits of volunteering can be felt not only by the organisation, but also by the volunteers themselves. It can increase your employability, allow you to socialise and forge friendships and can give you the opportunity to develop new skills which can enrich your working and personal life.
“We’d urge anyone who has thought about volunteering before, or anyone who is looking for a new challenge to sign up and come along to one of our events to find out more about joining the team!”
