CLAN receives funding boost thanks to national awards

CLAN Cancer Support has been awarded almost £12,000 to assist the charity to continue its vital support work throughout Orkney, Shetland and the North-east of Scotland.

People’s Postcode Trust, which is funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, awarded the charity £9,533. This has been used to fund new beds for the charity’s Haven accommodation facility within its new purpose-designed headquarters on Westburn Road, Aberdeen.

The charity has also recieved £2,000 from the Co-Operative Membership Big Community Vote 2011. This particular award will be used to ensure the charity can continue to support younger clients who are affected by a cancer diagnosis or the bereavement of a sibling, parent or grandparent.

Susan Crighton, CLAN Cancer Support fundraising manager, said the two awards mean a great deal to the charity.

Susan said: “We are extremely grateful to both initiatives for their continued support which will help to ensure we can continue to provide the level of support and assistance to people which we pride ourselves in.

“The awards are also extremely important to us as the local community is involved in deciding where the funding is used. In fact CLAN received 56% of the overall votes for Grampian in the Co-Operative vote which proves what an immense level of support we have in the area.

“It is also extremely important to us that we can also support other local initiatives when possible. The People’s Postcode Trust award has enabled us to support another local initiative in Glencraft as we were able to purchase a number of beds from them for our Haven facility.

“We have also been lucky enough to secure funding from the Co-Operative Community Fund in Grampian and Shetland, which will also play an important part in allowing us to continue to make a difference to people throughout our wide area.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN is also developing services in the community and now has bases in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Orkney and Shetland.
