CLAN needs your vote for Bank of Scotland Community Fund

CLAN Cancer Support has made a final rallying call for votes after it was shortlisted for the Bank of Scotland Community Fund 2014 in Aberdeen.

By encouraging the public to vote, CLAN has a chance to be awarded a grant of up to £3,000 from Bank of Scotland which, if successful, the charity will use to fund extra appointments for its in-house hairdressing service, The Salon.

The Salon was launched last year and provides a free haircut and wig styling service to those affected by cancer.

Established local hairdresser Estelle Robb, who has extensive experience in styling wigs and hair pieces, as well as cutting hair affected by treatments such as chemotherapy, delivers the service from the charity’s CLAN House in Aberdeen.

The free service, which currently operates on a Monday only, is available for both men and woman who have seen their hair affected by cancer treatments and is available to those from across the north-east of Scotland.

Debbie Thomson, chief executive of CLAN Cancer Support, said: “If we are successful, the Bank of Scotland Community Fund will make a huge difference to CLAN in enabling us to increase the number of appointments we can provide from our in-house hairdressing service, The Salon.

“The Salon has proved a popular addition to our services since it opened within CLAN House in Aberdeen early last year and we’ve seen a really strong uptake from local people and from those staying at CLAN Haven while visiting the city for treatment.

“Hair loss can be a difficult side-effect of cancer treatment and The Salon is very much there to help people cope with this. Estelle is highly experienced in both haircutting and wig styling and we’d be ever so grateful if people voted for CLAN to enable us to expand this service even further.”

The Bank of Scotland Community Fund was set up to help local people across Scotland have a positive impact at the hearts of their communities by giving grants to 232 local good causes in 58 Scottish communities.

Four good causes in each community will be shortlisted and Bank of Scotland is inviting everyone to vote for the causes they’d most like to support.

Members of the public can vote for their preferred community group on-line, by SMS or Twitter, or in a Bank of Scotland branch from 2 September to 10 October 2014. The local good cause that receives most votes in each community will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the votes received.
