CLAN looking for help to set up new centre in Shetland

A charity which is set to open a local base is appealing to members of the community to help it add the finishing touches to its new home.

CLAN Cancer Support, which will move into 39 Commercial Road, Lerwick, is in the process of carrying out refurbishment work to the premises.

The new centre will allow CLAN Cancer Support to build upon the services it currently offers in Shetland, with space to accommodate a drop-in service for support and information, complementary therapies, and a base for support groups to meet and develop.

But in order to get the centre up and running, the organisation is looking for a range of items and manpower to help kit out its new space.

Among the items that CLAN Cancer Support requires are; white goods, office furniture and signage, as well as the time of various tradesmen and volunteers. A full wish list has been published on the charity’s website.

Karen Scott, CLAN Cancer Support’s island coordinator, is confident that the local community will lend a hand to CLAN’s cause.

She said: “The support CLAN has received in Shetland over the years has been tremendous, and it is only because of this support that we have reached a position where we can open a centre on the Island.

“However, there are things that we really need in order to make our new premises as comfortable and homely as possible.

“While we do have a ‘wish list’ of items, we are also looking for people to offer us their time as well to help us get up and running.”

Anyone who would like to donate either an item or their time to CLAN Cancer Support, should contact Karen on 07767848872
