CLAN Health Walks resume after festive break

CLAN Cancer Support will hold its first health walk of the year next weekend after they were introduced in Aberdeen following on from the success of similar groups in Orkney and Ballater.

The charity’s health walk groups allow those who are affected by cancer to speak with members of CLAN’s support personnel in a relaxed environment, alongside undertaking a spot of gentle exercise.

Being held on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm, the first walk of the New Year will take place on Saturday, January 18 and will start from the charity’s CLAN House on Westburn Road.

Walkers will be led by four of CLAN’s support volunteers who have all been trained as part of the Walk Aberdeen and Paths for All schemes. The walk will last for approximately one hour with teas and coffees available on completion.

Jane Adams, CLAN’s volunteering co-ordinator, said: “After the success of our Orkney and Ballater health walk groups, we decided to start it up in Aberdeen with walks taking place every Saturday morning. The response has been great and the first one of 2014 will take place on January 18.

“The groups are open to all CLAN clients and to anyone affected by cancer and we are encouraging those who would feel that they would benefit from a morning of gentle exercise and companionship to join us. The walks in Orkney and Ballater, areas in which CLAN has a presence in, have proved a great way for people to meet and talk to others who are dealing with similar experiences and we see the Aberdeen group as being no different.

“We’d like to thank Stephen Gammack, an active age and development officer from Aberdeen City Council for the support he has provided to enable the formation of the group and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day.”

Booking is not required for the walks and for more information, please contact Jane Adams on 01224 647000 or email enquiries@clanhouse.org
