CLAN Calls For Car Enthusiasts To Join Its Annual Cavalcade

Classic car enthusiasts are being asked to start their engines and join a leading north-east cancer support charity in a fundraising drive through Moray and Aberdeenshire.

The third annual CLAN Cancer Support Cavalcade event will leave from Elgin on the morning of Friday, July 29 and the charity is looking for keen drivers to join it on the day.

From Elgin, the cavalcade will snake its way through the north-east, with pit stops planned at CLAN’s Turriff base before arriving at Balmoral Castle in the heart of Royal Deeside. From there, the convoy will take the scenic route through Tomintoul before visiting CLAN in Ballater and heading back to Elgin.

Last year’s event attracted classic car and motorbikes of all shapes and sizes to raise nearly £3,000 towards CLAN’s continued provision of free support services to anyone affected by cancer across the north and north-east of Scotland.

This year’s event will hold specific poignancy for attendees after the driving force of the previous two years, Ron Billings, sadly passed away earlier this year. A keen member of Moray Historic Wheels and a support volunteer for the charity in Elgin, Ron was responsible for the event’s inception and played an instrumental role in it becoming firmly established in the charity’s fundraising calendar.

Tracy Sellar, CLAN’s Moray services co-ordinator, said: “It’s always an incredible sight to see the spread of classic and vintage vehicles line-up outside Balmoral Castle and the CLAN Cavalcade is definitely an event I personally look forward to in the year-long calendar.

“We’re looking for drivers to join us in our own mini tour of the north-east. It’s a chance to meet other enthusiasts, take in some of the area’s most stunning scenery alongside raising valuable funds for CLAN; we’d be delighted to have you along on the day.

“We will also be thinking about Ron during this year’s event of who we are indebted too for coming to us with the idea of the drive and for being integral to its continued success. Ron was much-loved both at CLAN and in Moray, with his enthusiasm for classic cars there for all to see. What better way to pay tribute to Ron by coming together to make this the biggest and best CLAN Cavalcade yet.”

The drive will leave Elgin at 10am and will finish back in the town at approximately 5.30pm. Entry to the event is free but participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £25 per person. Numbers are limited to interested drivers are advised to book early.
