Clan Cancer Support raised £50,000 at its fundraising ball this weekend, with more than 200 guests attending the 20s style event at the Beach Ballroom on Saturday night (October 1).

Individuals and businesses from across the north-east immersed themselves in the prohibition era for the evening which included a drinks reception, three-course dinner and performances from a live band, dancing flapper girls and barbershop singers.

The event, which was supported by The Cormack Foundation, was the charity’s first fundraising ball in three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic with money raised helping Clan to continue providing free wellbeing and support services to anyone affected by cancer across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

Fiona Fernie, chief executive of Clan Cancer Support said: “We’ve had to wait a long time for this event and it certainly didn’t disappoint. It was a very special evening which highlighted the importance of our services to so many people in our region.

“I can’t overstate how amazing it was to have so many people joining us in person at the Beach Ballroom. Clan is entirely reliant on donations and fundraising, making the last two years very challenging and this event particularly important.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed towards the significant amount raised on the night which will help ensure we can continue to provide free support and services to people affected by cancer across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland for years to come.”

Clan Cancer Support provides emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

Over the last 39 years Clan’s services have grown significantly to address the emotional and social impacts of cancer and include counselling, children and families support and nutrition, health and wellbeing advice. The charity also operates Clan Haven which offers bed and breakfast accommodation near Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, providing affordable accommodation with onsite support for those who have to travel from home to Aberdeen for treatment.
