CLAN Cancer Support announced at its AGM last night (29 November) the appointment of a new chairman, Robbie Duncan.
Robbie takes over from Sue Paterson, who has held the role for the last five years.
Robbie joined CLAN’s board in 2009 and has been Vice Chairman since 2011. Born and brought up in Aberdeen, Robbie is a former Executive Director of FirstGroup. Since leaving FirstGroup in 2003, he was until very recently a Governor of the Robert Gordon University, and has held a number of non-executive directorships.
Following his appointment, Robbie said, “There can be few people whose lives have not been touched by cancer. I am proud of the work that CLAN carries out in our local community and the difference it makes to people’s lives. The charity has seen significant growth, particularly in the last five years or so; but it has never lost sight of its aim ‘to comfort always’. He continued, “CLAN’s dedicated and committed personnel and volunteers offer something very special to those affected by cancer. It is a privilege to be appointed as Chairman. I will continue to work with fellow Board members, CEO, Debbie Thomson, and her senior management team to ensure that CLAN goes from strength to strength.”
Dr Vijay Jandial who joined CLAN’s Board earlier this year takes on the role of Vice-Chair.
Sue Paterson joined CLAN’s Board in 2006, becoming Chairman in 2007. Born and brought up in South America, Sue’s background is in the oil industry, holding senior positions with Shell both in the UK and overseas.
Sue said, “The last six years have been both challenging and exciting for CLAN and I am delighted to have been involved at such a significant time in the charity’s development; the expansion of services throughout the North East of Scotland and Northern Isles, and the move to a new Cancer Support Centre in Aberdeen being particular highlights.”
She continues, “I have enjoyed working with Robbie over the last few years and know that under his chairmanship CLAN will continue to go from strength to strength.”
