CLAN announces expansion in North Aberdeenshire

CLAN Cancer Support has announced the expansion of services in North Aberdeenshire for anyone affected by cancer.

CLAN is to provide a new drop-in facility within the hub of the Fraserburgh Development Trust building on the town’s High Street that will be open every Monday, 10am to 4pm.

The charity is hosting an open day on Monday 29 April – all welcome to come along, meet the team and find out more about CLAN’s services in North Aberdeenshire. Services will be available in Fraserburgh from Monday 13 May.

Claire Fraser, services manager at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “CLAN has 30 years of providing support to people whose lives have been affected by a diagnosis of cancer across the North East. We know that this illness can have a devastating impact on all affected. By being available in the heart of the Fraserburgh community, we hope that people will find it easier to access our services when they need us.

CLAN offers people one to one emotional support and information, counselling, and a range of complementary therapies. In time, we will develop a number of group activities for friendship and support. For younger people affected by cancer, CLAN provides a dedicated service through our Children and Families team that offers support through illness and bereavement.

Claire Fraser says, “Clients who use CLAN in other parts of the North East and Northern Isles tell us that they are helped to feel more relaxed and less anxious about their situation, can have a better night’s sleep and increase energy levels. At CLAN, we aim to ensure that as many people as possible affected by cancer can access this kind of support. The expansion will also provide vital links to our Aberdeen based services, where we currentkly provide a wider range of services? a move that allows CLAN to become even more accessible to many people across the north-east of Scotland.”

The charity’s North Aberdeenshire area services co-ordinator, Ruth Cantrill will run the service in Fraserburgh and follows on from a successful development of services in neighbouring Peterhead.
