Charities aim to go around the world in a day

Fitness enthusiasts and families are being encouraged to travel across the globe to help raise funds for two charities.

CLAN Cancer Support and Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) are to benefit from an Around the World in a Day event organised by the DoubleTree By Hilton in Aberdeen on Saturday, June 15.

The two charities are appealing for volunteers to run, walk, bike and swim by using the facilities kindly donated by the hotel in an effort to collect as many kilometres as possible in just one day. There will be a number of activities available for children that will also contribute to the overall distance of the event.

Participants are being encouraged to come up with their own ideas to build up mileage and it is hoped that the static bikes will be in use for the entirety of the event.

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN, said: “We’re delighted to be involved again with this year’s Around the World in a Day event and we would like to thank the DoubleTree by Hilton for giving us the opportunity to help celebrate our 30th anniversary in style.

“All funds raised on the day will aid us in our provision of free support for anyone affected by cancer across the north-east of Scotland and we would be entirely grateful to anyone who could come along on the day and spare a half hour to help us in our quest to travel as far as we can in what is a fun, family-friendly event.”

Hannah Archibald, fundraiser at CHAS, said: “We are delighted that DoubleTree by Hilton has chosen CHAS as a beneficiary in their Around the World in a Day event. Money raised will help us to continue to support children and young people in the north-east with life shortening conditions for which there is no known cure.

“We’d love for the people of Aberdeen and the north-east to really get behind this fun event and raise as much money as possible for two fantastic local causes.”

Cathy Deerin, HR manager at DoubleTree by Hilton, said: “The Around the World in a Day event is supported internationally across the entire range of Hilton hotels and excitement is already building over how many miles we can total up on the day.

“The support from the public has been incredible in previous events and I’m sure the people in Aberdeen will come out in force for what are two fantastic causes in CLAN and CHAS.”

The event runs from 9am to 4.30pm and is £5 to enter with all proceeds going directly to CLAN and CHAS.
