Volunteer Appeal for Banchory

A local cancer support charity is appealing for new volunteers to help with the provision of free services for anyone affected by cancer in the Banchory area.

CLAN Cancer Support is appealing to potential volunteers to attend an informal recruitment meeting on Monday, June 10, between 4pm to 6pm, within the Centenary Hall of Banchory West Church on the town’s High Street.

Hosted by the charity’s volunteer co-ordinator Jane Adams and Aberdeenshire area co-ordinator Gemma Powell, the session will give potential volunteers the chance to find out more about how people can get involved with CLAN.

Jane Adams explained: “CLAN currently has more than 360 volunteers across the north-east of Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland, giving in excess of 40,000 hours of help per year. With the Banchory centre recently opening, we are looking to increase the pool of volunteers that we currently have in the area.

“We are specifically looking for support volunteers to help in the centre on Thursdays, as well as volunteers to help with fundraising and awareness events that will take place across Banchory and the surrounding region.

“Our volunteers are invaluable to the success of the charity and I urge anyone who is considering giving up some of their spare time, to come forward and help CLAN. What they offer in doing this is much appreciated by so many and without them, the charity wouldn’t be where it is today.”

For more information on the centre and the support services it will offer, please contact Aberdeenshire area co-ordinator Gemma Powell on 07720 737497 or email gemma.powell@clanhouse.org

CLAN is providing a new drop-in facility within the Centenary Hall of Banchory-Ternan West Parish Church that is open every Thursday from 10am to 4 pm. The new facility provides local people with free information and support alongside a range of complementary therapies including aromatherapy, reiki and reflexology – all of which can help reduce anxiety and promote a sense of improved wellbeing.

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer. CLAN aims to support people to reduce anxiety, stress and to increase their ability to cope with the effects of a serious illness. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
