Official Opening for CLAN Centre and Shop in Shetland

CLAN Cancer Support held the official opening of its Shetland centre and shop last night (Thursday, September 27).

CLAN invited guests, including former committee members, fundraisers, volunteers and therapists, to tour the new facility and meet the local team, as well as the charity’s chief executive, Debbie Thomson, and fundraising manager, Susan Crighton.

Theguests gathered at CLAN’s centre on Commercial Road, Lerwick and were able to learn more about all the services on offer as well as celebrate this significant achievement that would not have been possible without many individual contributions and support.

CLAN's chief executive, Debbie Thomson, was delighted to be in Shetland to mark the occasion.

She said: “It is absolutely fantastic to see the CLAN Cancer Support centre up and running in Shetland. Although we have been offering services in the area for a number of years now, to be able to offer support, information and therapies all under one roof is magnificent.

“The local community has shown us such tremendous support over the years and I am delighted to give something back to all those who have tirelessly fundraised and helped to make all this possible.

“The charity shop, although only having been open for a short period of time, is already proving to be a huge success and is making a significant contribution to CLAN’s ongoing fundraising effort.”

Catherine Hughson, executive Officer of VAS and CLAN’s Shetland Steering Group chairman said “We are all delighted to see the physical presence of CLAN here. We realised through the tremendously successful CLAN 1-2-3 Campaign just how many families living in Shetland are touched by cancer and the important role of CLAN and CLAN Haven helping them through such difficult times. My thanks again to all those who have volunteered to make sure we have support locally.”
