New minibus for CLAN thanks to Order of St John and Awards for All

North-east charity CLAN Cancer Support’s work has stepped up a gear after a significant funding boost from an international charitable organisation.

The Order of St John has donated £20,000 to CLAN to help meet the costs of a new minibus for the Aberdeen-based charity. An additional grant of £10,000 from the Awards for All scheme was also provided to fund the Ford Tourneo minibus, capable of carrying eight passengers.

The bus will be used to provide transport for service users at CLAN House and the various satellite centres throughout the North-east.

The vehicle was unveiled today (Friday, September 14) during a visit by the Lord Prior Anthony Mellows of the Order of St John.

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “To receive such a generous donation is wonderful and is a major boost to our fundraising team.

“The £20,000 from The Order of St John has already been put to good use and having the fantastic new bus available to us will help us to build on the services we provide. We are always working to expand and improve the work we do and without this type of support it simply would not be possible.”

Jenny Shirreffs, chairman of St John in Aberdeen, said: “CLAN Cancer Support plays a major role in north and north-east Scotland, and we are proud to help them continue their admirable work”.

The Order of St John is an international charitable organisation, represented in 40 countries and with more than 250,000 members, volunteers and staff committed to spiritual and humanitarian projects.
