Financial planner rocks out for CLAN

As a financial planner, Bill Saunders is used to helping people navigate the financial maze and get the most out of their money. Now, the father-of-four is hoping to boost the coffers of a North-east charity through a talent he displays in his spare time.

By day, Saunders, 51, is head of financial planning at Aberdeen-based Acumen Financial Planning. By night, he turns musician, singer and song-writer, working from a purpose-built studio in his Bridge of Don home.

He has just released his latest album, 12 in 12, featuring 12 brand new, original compositions. It is available on iTunes, and will be released on CD in June.

All profits will be donated to CLAN Cancer Support, the independent charity for anyone affected by cancer. Based at CLAN House in Aberdeen, it covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland.

“In my secret life, music is my passion,” says Mr Saunders. “This is the third album I’ve released in the last ten years. The guitars, keyboards, drums and singing were all done by me, so it truly is a solo effort.

“Most people think of singer/songwriters as strumming an acoustic, whilst howling about love and peace, but I’m definitely not in that category. I like loud electric guitars!

“I lost a close relative at a young age to cancer a few years back, so the opportunity to support a fantastic charity like CLAN Cancer Support is an added bonus.”

His second album, Irish Pub Anthems, was released in 2008, proceeds from which also went to CLAN. His inaugural album, Time and Life, was released in 2005 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN Cancer Support, said: “Bill’s music is fantastic: what a great way to help us raise funds! Everyone at CLAN Cancer Support is delighted that Bill has chosen to support us again and we are thrilled to be part of what is an extremely exciting venture.

“It is only through constant fundraising and the generosity of our supporters like Bill that we’re able to keep providing services for our clients and we are hugely grateful to Bill for all the support he has shown CLAN over the years.”
