Employees Of Bancon Homes Reaching Heights For CLAN

After scaling 1,155 metres to the summit of Lochnagar last weekend, employees of Bancon Group have raised £7,000 for cancer support charity CLAN.

A group of 11 employees of the Aberdeenshire housebuilder and construction group sported waterproofs, hats and gloves to take on the challenge of reaching the top of the Munro.

Also volunteering to take on the climb and support the fundraising group were Jackie Craig from CLAN and three family members, the youngest of which was aged just 10.

Although the weather meant that they could not enjoy the views of the Cairngorms from the peak, the group raised £7,000, which was handed over to CLAN, the chosen charity of the Leys Group, Bancon Group’s parent company.

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which provides comfort support and information, free of charge, for anyone, of any age, affected by any type of cancer.

John Irvine, CEO of Bancon Group, who also took part in the hike said: “Many of us are not regular hill walkers, so choosing to climb Lochnagar was a great challenge. Despite the weather, we all made it to the top in three and a half hours with an all-round trip of just under seven hours.

“The support we received has been fantastic and we are so grateful to have been able to raise £7,000 for CLAN, a local charity that is very close to our hearts and that do amazing work in supporting people with cancer.”

Steph Dowling, CLAN Cancer Support Fundraising Team Manager said: “The enthusiasm and support from the whole team at Bancon Group has been fantastic and, on behalf of CLAN, I would like to congratulate everyone who tackled Lochnagar raising a fantastic amount in the process.

“We are looking forward to working with Bancon Group, and the wider Leys Group, throughout the year. This level of support from organisations plays a crucial role in ensuring CLAN can continue to provide wellbeing and support services for anyone affected by cancer throughout north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. I can’t wait to hear what the group has planned next!”

Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN has a presence in Ballater, Banchory, Buckie, Elgin, Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Lossiemouth, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Turriff, Kirkwall and Lerwick.
