CLAN seeking volunteers in Moray

A north-east cancer support charity is on the hunt for volunteers after it announced an expansion in to the Moray area.

CLAN Cancer Support in partnership with Elgin & District Cancer Support Group, is to open a new facility in Elgin, and is appealing to potential volunteers to attend an informal drop-in session on Thursday, May 16, between 3pm to 6pm, within the new centre at 227 High Street.

The session, hosted by the charity’s volunteer co-ordinator Jane Adams and Moray services co-ordinator Tracy Sellar, will give potential volunteers the chance to find out more about what opportunities are available and will provide information on how people can get involved with CLAN.

Jane Adams explained: “CLAN currently has more than 360 volunteers across the north-east of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland, giving in excess of 40,000 hours of help per year and with the new centre opening in Elgin, it’s imperative that we increase the pool of volunteers that we currently have in Moray.

“We are specifically looking for support volunteers to help in the new centre, as well as volunteer drivers to take clients to and from hospital appointments. We also need volunteers to help with a wide variety of fundraising events that will take place across the area.

“Our volunteers are invaluable to the success of the charity and I urge anyone who is considering giving up some of their spare time, to come forward and help CLAN continue to provide a range of free services to anyone affected by cancer.”

Those wishing to offer their help as a support volunteer or driver will be provided with specialised listening and support training that will take place in Elgin at the end of May.
