CLAN opens new wig styling and hairdressing service
A new service is to open in Aberdeen that will provide free hairdressing for people who have seen their hair affected by cancer treatments.
CLAN Cancer Support has unveiled, The Salon; a new free service at CLAN House. It will be delivered by established local hairdresser Estelle Robb, who has extensive experience in styling wigs and hair pieces, as well as in cutting thin hair affected by treatments such as chemotherapy.
Estelle said, “With cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, there is a distinct chance that hair loss may occur. The Salon has been set up to help people cope with this side effect.
“It can be completely tailored to a specific person’s needs - whether it be wig cutting and styling or specialised cutting for thinning hair, our new service can cater for all demands.
“Personally, I am really looking forward to working with CLAN clients and it is great to be able to help CLAN add to the already diverse list of free services it offers to anyone affected by cancer.”
Estelle was inspired by her own experiences with cancer and recently completed a course run by celebrity hairdresser Trevor Sorbie on how to cut and style wigs for those who are in the process of losing their hair as a result of cancer treatments.
She said, “I’d like to think that men and women will come away from an appointment feeling more like themselves. We all care about how we look and I believe that I can help boost people’s confidence and their self-esteem through helping them cope with hair loss.
“CLAN House is such a bright and upbeat place to visit and The Salon itself will reflect this, allowing clients to look good and subsequently feel good.”
The dedicated salon has been made available through support and sponsorship from the PINK group and as with all of CLAN’s services, is free of charge to its clients. PINK (People in Need of Kindness) is a support group for women of all ages affected by cancer.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support received from the PINK group to set up this new service and to help get The Salon looking really smart, and we are equally delighted that Estelle has agreed to be part of this important development.
“Clients coming along to CLAN House will also be able to find out more about the range of other services we can offer. We hope we can reach out to more people who can benefit from CLAN’s support.”

People in Need of Kindness (PINK) is a support group consisting of friendly women of all ages who share with each other, their experiences of cancer.
