CLAN expands services in Deeside - Open Day 23 May 2013

CLAN Cancer Support has announced the expansion of services in Banchory for anyone affected by cancer.

CLAN is to provide a new drop-in facility within Centenary Hall at Banchory-Ternan West Parish Church on the town’s High Street that will be open every Thursday from 10am to 4pm.

The new facility will provide local people with free information and support alongside a range of complimentary services that includes aromatherapy, reiki and reflexology. These services will be available from Thursday, May 30.

The charity will host an open day on Thursday, May 23, 11am to 4pm, that will provide an opportunity to meet the team and find out more about CLAN’s services in Deeside.

Claire Fraser, services manager at CLAN, said: “CLAN has 30 years of providing support to people whose lives have been affected by a diagnosis of cancer across the north east. We know that this illness can have a devastating impact on all affected. By being available in the heart of the Banchory community, we hope that people will find it easier to access our services when they need us.

“Clients who use CLAN say that they are helped to feel more relaxed and less anxious about their situation, have a better night’s sleep and see an increase in energy levels. We aim to ensure that as many people as possible affected by cancer can access this kind of support.

“The expansion will also provide vital links to our Aberdeen base, where we currently provide a wider range of services. It is a move that allows CLAN to become even more accessible to many people across the north-east of Scotland.”

CLAN also offers a number of services in Ballater and is appealing for potential volunteers to attend an informal drop-in session on Wednesday, May 22, between 2pm to 4pm, at Glen Muick Church Hall.

The session, hosted by the charity’s volunteer co-ordinator Jane Adams and Aberdeenshire services co-ordinator Gemma Powell, will give potential volunteers the chance to find out more about what opportunities are available and will provide information on how people can get involved with the charity.
