CLAN Cancer Support announces new Orkney patron

CLAN Cancer Support has announced the appointment of a second Orkney-based patron.

Marty Flett, a long term supporter of CLAN Cancer Support, will join the charity’s existing patrons, which include Linda Lennie, who is also based in Orkney.

Marty brings with him a long history of successful fundraising for CLAN, with his most recent endeavour seeing him cycle with Bruce Ruthven from Kirkwall to the charity’s Aberdeen base on the city’s Westburn Road and back – a 500 mile round journey.

CLAN’s services manager, Claire Fraser, is delighted that Marty has agreed to become a patron for CLAN Cancer Support.

Meeting Marty at CLAN in Orkney, she said: “Marty will be a wonderful ambassador for CLAN and has already done so much for the organisation.

“As well as being part of the North Atlantic Rowing Team which rowed from Shetland to the Faroes in a record 45 hours raising over £53,000 for us, Marty has organised many fundraising events in aid of CLAN, and his drive and enthusiasm for the cause is phenomenal.

“I am thrilled to be able to officially welcome Marty to CLAN Cancer Support as a patron and I know he will be a huge asset to us not only here in Kirkwall but throughout the charity.”
