CLAN appeals for volunteers for Landmark Walk

A leading north-east cancer support charity is appealing for volunteers after it unveiled plans for a new walk organised to help commemorate its 30th anniversary.

CLAN Cancer Support is inviting members of the public to help out with the marshalling of its Landmark Walk, a 13-mile route taking in 30 of Aberdeen’s best known sites on Sunday, September 22.

A number of volunteers will also be required to help in the event village in Westburn Park where a family fun day will take place. Members of the public are also being encouraged to attend the activities in the park to show their support to the walkers taking part.

Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN, said: “On the day, we require over 150 marshals and volunteers to help with a range of duties from covering junction points to ensure walkers are safe to handing out water at various spots as well as the all-important medals at the finish.

“We’d be entirely grateful to all those who could offer up a few hours on the day to come down and help with what is shaping up to be a wonderful event.

“The walk itself has the potential to be a real spectacle and we’d like as many people as possible to come together and help us celebrate our 30th birthday in style. All funds raised on the day will aid our provision of free services to anyone affected by cancer across the north-east of Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.”

The event, supported by commercial law firm Bond Dickinson, has already seen close to 100 participants sign up and is set to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the organisation.
