Christmas Cracker Event raised over £124,000 for CLAN

Generous businesses and individuals from across the north-east have come together to raise a record total at a leading cancer support charity’s annual Christmas event.

Over £124,000 was raised at CLAN Cancer Support’s Christmas Cracker which saw nearly 500 attend the peacock and pearls themed evening at the AECC on Friday, November 29.

Guests at the TOTAL supported event enjoyed a three-course meal, tombola, silent auction and entertainment from CLAN’s own Leigh Ryrie and local singer-songwriter Leanne Smith. Leanne has recently released a single entitled, ‘Can’t See You’, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Attendees also took part in a moving moment as those who have been affected by cancer were asked to shine a light in the darkened room, helping to create a striking visual reminder of the importance of the organisation’s work.

Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “The Christmas Cracker event is very much a year-long project and it’s one that we have nursed over the last few years and its steadily grown in size and stature as a result.

“We’ve been absolutely blown away by the fantastic amount that was raised on the night, which is over £50,000 more than last year’s event and we’d like to offer our sincere thanks and gratitude to everyone who helped make the night such a roaring success.”

Among the popular auction lots were tickets to the opening and closing ceremonies of next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, a round of golf at the prestigious private club at Skibo Castle and an original Eric Auld painting which fetched an astonishing £19,000.
